Andreescu defeated Serena Williams in straight sets at the US Open final to become Canda’s first Garnd Slam singles championa and deny tennis great Serena her record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title. After her historic trimpuh at the Flushing Meadows, Toronto Mayor John Tory thanked the teenager for inspiring young athletes across the city. Tory wrote on his official Twitter handle that Andreescu has “won the hearts of millions of Torontonians.”
